Seminal alt-rock legends The Clean have announced an Australian tour scheduled for January next year. The New Zealand outfit are returning to our shores for their first Australian tour in 25 years, and their first ever trip to Perth in their 35 year career. The first, and arguably most important act to emerge from New Zealand’s infamous Flying Nun label, The Clean created a sound as varied and eclectic as the acts they inspired. Their off beat, reverb heavy and often low-fi tone can be heard in admirers Sonic Youth, Yo La Tengo and Pavement as well as garage rock revivalist Jay Reatard. There’s an unavoidable sincerity throughout The Clean’s anthology that really distinguishes them from other acts that produce a similar sound, a quality that can only really come from experimentation and not replication.
